Things For Nothing

The other day, as I was typing up the Love Cheneny post, my students were wafting into my room and saw me frantically typing:

“What are you doing?”
“Writing.”
“What are you writing?”
“Some personal thoughts.”
“Why are you typing so fast?”
“Sometimes you get on a roll, and you don’t want to get off the train. You know? It’s like the whole process is beyond your control. Like magic.”

They looked at me in awe. As if I had let them in on a secret.

“I don’t teach you these things for nothing. I love to write. It has saved my life. It may save yours someday. But enough of that let’s get started.”

They ran to their desks and looked at me attentively. Teaching isn’t hard to do, you just have to love what you are teaching.
