Self-Portrait in an Enclosed Space- (Technology)

A friend of mine often warns me not to explain my art too thoroughly, “By over explaining your work, you deprive your audience of the gift of interpretation, and one could argue, that interpretation is the true nature of art.”

I have noticed that many people here, myself included, explain each portrait at time of posting, well, I want to simply put this week’s image(s) out there and invite you to share your interpretations with other readers and me. I believe in art that is interactive and one that unites people through an exchange of ideas. So I will not post the explanation of what I was thinking when I took my self-portrait in an enclosed space until later.

This month’s Self-Portrait Challenge is enclosed Spaces. I chose to be enclosed in technology. I had about twenty different shots, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not narrow it down to one. So here are my two shots, they are to be seen as a pair, not two separate shots:

  1. Both very cool shots! (I wouldn't have been able to decide either.)

They made me think of the often-talked-about idea that technology like computers and tv showing us what's happening all around the world is a way to connect, but it's isolating as well because we stare at these screens and feel like we're being social, but that takes away time that might be spent interacting with people face to face. (I hope that made sense...time for me to go to sleep!)

wow that's kinda creepy ... like you're trying to get out but you are *trapped* inside. very claustrophobic.

  5. Creative idea. Well-executed. Love that you went the extra step and pressed your face against the glass or whatever to complete the effect.

You're probably just trapped in a computer game. That happens to a person once in a while. ;)

  10. art should not be limited to one or two shots- it is what the artist envisions. as for you telling all- i think you should tell a smidge but the audience should be able to have their own experience too. there is a local 'artist' here who doesn't put any thought necessarily into his work. he doesn't title anything- but he also mass produces some things- so i really think he is an artist wannabe or poser.

at any rate, i think you did a great job capturing what i feel about technology. it is now a part of us and we are sometimes swallowed up by it and can't escape it. i think that you did a great job(are we allowed to say that? :)

I agree with your friend; you need not explain your art!
