It’s worse. It’s over. You lost.

I have been a bit apolitical for the last few weeks. I have been focusing on work, my daughter, a few new art projects, reading, and watching movies. I suppose I have suffered from “what can we do about it syndrome.” Every night, I watch the news and wait for the report that says, “American forces have begun major military operations to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities.” I will try and call my dad, but the lines will be down. They will stay like this for months. I will worry. I worry now. This new war has already started at least for me. I imagine scenes like the one described here from Baghdad Burning and I can’t stay quiet anymore.

This last paragraph had me crying with rage and anger. I am learning that this hopeless anger is not healthy and does not solve anything; I am also learning that perhaps simply blogging about these issues is a waste of time, but sometimes there doesn’t seem like there is anything else to do. What will I do when these stories are coming from Iran? Will it be different? Will I try to be more proactive? Will there be anything I could do? Is there anything any of us could do to stop these wars? Please tell me; I need to know.

Here is the passage from Baghdad Burning that finally got me to write something:

Americans in America are still debating on the state of the war and occupation- are they winning or losing? Is it better or worse.

Let me clear it up for any moron with lingering doubts: It’s worse. It’s over. You lost. You lost the day your tanks rolled into Baghdad to the cheers of your imported, American-trained monkeys. You lost every single family whose home your soldiers violated. You lost every sane, red-blooded Iraqi when the Abu Ghraib pictures came out and verified your atrocities behind prison walls as well as the ones we see in our streets. You lost when you brought murderers, looters, gangsters and militia heads to power and hailed them as Iraq’s first democratic government. You lost when a gruesome execution was dubbed your biggest accomplishment. You lost the respect and reputation you once had. You lost more than 3000 troops. That is what you lost America. I hope the oil, at least, made it worthwhile.

  1. but we, the people, aren't debating- we have made our wishes clear. the powers that be are not listening and continue to do as they please. i wish i could do more- i wish that the people in iraq and iran could know that there is a solid majority of america that is against all of this. it is no longer up for debate in the minds of the people- it is the politicians that are not sure what to do- even though we have told them..

I too feel helpless. And outraged.
