Self-Portrait Challenge- Environment: Poolslide

This month's challenge at SPC is to show yourself in your surroundings, using your environment as a marker of who you are. It might be the onset of extreme weather or it might be the particular seasonal fruits and foods you like to eat or places you like to visit or activities you participate in that are special to this time of year. There is a second aspect to the challenge, but sinceI will be focusing on showing myself in my surroundings this week, I will leave that till later.

As I have mentioned several times before Kuala Lumpur is hot and humid all the time. There is one season. Hot. Humid. And as I get ready to move from the tropics to the desert, I am beginning to realize how much I love the sauna like weather, the torrential rainstorms, and the fact that I am at the pool every weekend. I could see how this weather would be disagreeable if you had to be in a suit and tie, but give me access to water and I will take heat over cold every time. We belong to a nice club five minutes from our house, and there is nothing I like more than spending a few hours escaping the heat in the water with my little girl and my wife.

June should be a very interesting month for me, because my surroundings and my environment will be changing. We are moving from Malaysia to Qatar next year, and we will be in Sweden and NYC before we get there. before that happens, I hope to capture some of my favorite surroundings here in KL. There is no deep or meaningful message this week, just a good time at the pool! I had a hard time deciding on one shot again, so I have chosen a series. This seems to make sense with these shots anyway. Enjoy!

I guess if I had to pick one, it would be this last one:

I like the last one too because you're watching her to make sure she's okay. It's extremely sweet.

I spent part of my jaded youth on Guam, and I concur with the tropics sentiment: if you can wear loose clothing, and spend part of the day in the water, life does not suck there.
