In times of trouble I turn to music. So on these quiet nights when I have so much to say, but my mouth feels gagged and my fingers bound and unable to type. When the words run a muck in my head, but have no outlet, I turn to the wisdom of those that came before me. I hear their songs. I close my eyes and imagine flickering candles fill the world of darkness. I feel warm and safe because I know I am not alone. I know I am right and strong, and that beauty; and love; and art; and everything I hold dear, will overcome these forces of oppression and control.
Be patient readers, soon this flower will re-bloom, in the meantime here is a song from Pearl Jam:
I will light the match this mornin, so I wont be alone
Watch as she lies silent, for soon night will be gone
Oh, I will stand arms outstretched, pretend I'm free to roam
Oh, I will make my way, through, one more day...
How much difference does it make
How much difference does it make, yeah...
I will hold the candle till it burns up my arm
Oh, I'll keep takin' punches until their will grows tired
Oh, I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind hey,
I wont change direction, and I wont change my mind
How much difference does it make
Mmm, how much difference does it make...how much difference...
I'll swallow poison, until I grow immune
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room
How much difference
How much difference does it make
Here is Pearl Jam with Ben Harper performing the song. There are a few other versions here.
I'm on a Broadway musical kick, even if I don't live in Oklahoma.
