we’re not in it for the summer holidays.
the lives we tend need support.
the things we teach matter.
the kids we love need us.
or someone.
or something.
so many teachers have it harder than me.
i am not naive.
but even with a competent curriculum
all the resources
a dedicated staff
and world-class facilities
everyday is an entanglement
with dysfunction and broken children.
we are all broken
in so many ways,
but beyond teaching
algebra or poetry or the periodic table
we help piece each other
back together.
how to keep secrets
how to build trust
how to maintain friendships
how to tell the truth
how to build boundaries
how to get attention
how to create identities
how to ask for help
how to say we’re sorry
how to
how to
the work we do is not easy.
