the world would be better
if it were run by dolphins,

I mean they’re smarter than us
and I bet they would have better ideas-

she says holding my hand
as we cross the street,
the sky still grey
the year new,
young and fresh,
optimistic.

Did you hear
that a small boy fell into
a gorilla enclosure
and although it was trying to save the boy
the people shot it dead?

I am surprised that she still hugs me
at the street light and weaves her arms
into mine as well walk
like a chain link fence
a tapestry
a DNA coil.

If they can make robots
for doctors to practice CPR,
why can’t they make robots to test
perfume on instead of using animals?

They need flesh and blood,
I mumble,
to test their poisons
and our shampoos.

Although, I guess that’s better-
if they didn’t use animals,
they’d probably find
immigrants from poor countries.

We eat some prata
drink a soda,
enjoy MCDonald’s Sundaes
and walk back home.

It’s important to get off screens
and out of the house sometimes.
