222/365

the hurricane is about hit ground again.
warning signs are evident in the flurry
of agenda items populating documents.
there is a ratcheting of tension both
at home and in the classroom. no time
for naps or all day cooking projects,
summer routines fading as the roar
of a new school year can be heard trumpeted
in the distance like a wild horde
rampaging across the prairies.
sharpening the swords.
tightening the straps.
battening down the hatches.
drowning in this earnest desire
to teach. to connect    to students:
open eyes, hearts and minds.
the minutia of the work is trivial-
unit plans and years at glances.

the world is on fire and this work is for survival.
